Did You Know You Could Use Listerine As A Foot Soak?

Posted on

When I was told to google “Listerine” this morning, I was not expecting to read “Listerine foot soak” as the very first search phrase on there. Let it be known that the person who told me about this magical discovery, was a man. Just goes to show you that men pay attention to detail; and well, maybe you should too. It seems that Listerine does more than freshen your breath and kill harmful bacteria in your mouth, it will also provide a soothing feeling to your feet. Listerine contains active ingredients—ingredients that pharmaceutically can influence your health—such as essential oils. These oils may include menthol, thymol, methyl salicylate, and eucalyptol. All of these essential oils have known antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Now, if you’re anything like me; you wear heels 5-6 days out of the week in New York City, take the subway, and walk about 5 miles a day. By the end of the week, your feet are just BEGGING for a foot soak or a pedicure. Either way, your feet need some TLC to be able to do it all over again the following week. So I decided to do some research for all womankind on the best recipes to soak your feet in using Listerine! Let’s dive right in, shall we?

1- Listerine Vinegar Foot Soak

Ingredients

Three Tablespoon of Honey
One and a half cup of Listerine
Half cup of vinegar
A jug filled with warm water
A container or bucket wide enough to place your feet

The Recipe

Combine all the ingredients in a tub large enough to fit your feet and soak them for 10-20 minutes. Some recipes suggest topping up the water a few times to keep it at a nice temperature.  Never do the feet soak with boiling hot water because it may end up damaging the skin. Make sure the water is warm enough to give you a soothing feel and not to cause any irritation or burning. After giving your feet this heavenly treatment you can further scrub or file them gently to remove the dead skin

2- Listerine Epsom Salt Foot Soak

Ingredients

Half cup of Epsom Salt
One and a half cup of Listerine
Few drops of lemon
A jug filled with warm water
A container wide enough to place feet

The Recipe

Fill the container with warm water and add a few drops of lemon juice and half cup of Epsom Salt. Add one and a half cup of Listerine into the water whilst stirring it slowly. Put your feet in the container for at least fifteen minutes and enjoy the warmth of solution. You can add a few cups of warm water if you are planning to soak them longer. The Epsom salt would greatly help in relieving the tension from feet muscles and reducing the inflammation. This foot soak greatly enhances the blood flow in your feet and eliminated the dryness from skin, moreover this footbath is also quite effective for toenail fungus.

4- Listerine & Chamomile Tea Foot Soak

Ingredients

Chamomile Tea Mixture
One cup of Listerine
A container wide enough to place feet
Warm water
A filer or foot scrubber
Vaseline

The Recipe

Brew a cup of Chamomile tea and pour it in the container with warm water and Listerine mixture. Stir the solution for a minute. Place your feet in the warm solution and enjoy the warmth for half an hour. You can add extra cups of boiled water to keep the solution warm during the whole time. File the dead skin from feet and wash it off with normal water. After drying your feet apply some Vaseline on your heels and massage it gently. The Chamomile-Listerine Foot Bath eliminates the calluses and corns and decreases the over-sweating of feet.

6- Listerine & Lemon-Mint Foot Soak

Ingredients

One Medium to Full size Lemon
Half cup of mint leaves
A container wide enough to place feet
Warm water
One cup of Listerine

The Recipe

Cut a lemon into thin slices and boil it in one litre of water with half cup of mint leaves. Boil the water for five to ten minutes and add a few drops of lemon juice. Let the water cool a bit and when it turns into lukewarm state add one cup of Listerine in it. Pour the water in container and place your feet in it for half an hour. You can add one or two cups of warm water to keep it warm for the whole period. You can try this foot soak twice in a week and you would be amazed with its foot soothing properties and the immaculate experience during the treatment.

3- Listerine & Shaving Cream Foot Soak

Ingredients

Shaving foam or cream
One cup of Listerine
A container wide enough to place feet
Warm water
A filer or foot scrubber

The Recipe

Wash your feet with soap or a good face wash. Apply the shaving cream on your feet and massage it gently for five to ten minutes. Fill the container with warm water and add one cup of Listerine in it. Place your feet in the warm solution for fifteen to twenty minutes. Use the filer or scrubber to remove the shaving cream along with the dead skin from feet and wash it off with normal water. Slowly massage the skin with a good skin lotion or Vaseline. The Shaving cream-Listerine feet soak works phenomenally better than the common foot creams in market. It can heal cracked and dry heels, prevents toenail fungus and dead skin cells formation with added Keratin treatment.
