THE SCENE: JCPenney X Tecla Awards

Posted on

This year I am especially excited to be heading to Hispanicize for the second year in a row to meet and mingle with the who’s who of the digital content creator world! One of these reasons I am especially excited to attend is because of The Tecla Awards which honors excellence in U.S. Latino online video, blogging, social media and those who create it. This year I just so happen to be nominated for my very first Tecla Award for “Breakout Creator Of The Year”…..I still can’t believe it! I am so thrilled to be nominated amongst other talented Latinas doing it big on social media!

“He hadn’t gone shopping in a while and wasn’t really sure what size he was at since the last time he went shopping.”

In honor of The Tecla Awards and this nomination, I teamed up with JCPenney to give one of my favorite latino influencers George Torres a glamorized makeover for the awards! George has been on a weight loss journey for quite a while now and is finally almost where he wants to be. He hadn’t gone shopping in a while and wasn’t really sure what size he was at since the last time he went shopping. We found out that he had actually gone down 2 sizes, plus the fact that he was purchasing clothes that were too big for him and he was no longer dressing for his shape therefore making him look bigger than what he really was. So I put together a look he couldn’t resist to wear to The Tecla Awards this year. I think he was very pleased, but you can be the judge by looking at his stance in his new look. 😉

This is what George came in with. Obviously he wasn’t headed to an award show, but you can see that he is wearing jeans that are way too baggy on him, they don’t flatter him and they are way too long. The entire looks says “I’m comfortable, but I didn’t put too much effort into my look”. I wanted to jazz him up a bit and find him clothes that really elevated him and took his look to the next level for the awards.

George wanted plaid, I didn’t…… so we settled on a subtle plaid button down. I jazzed this look up with a sleek black belt, black dress pants and black dressy slip-ons. The grey metallic jacket adds the perfect level of sophistication that we were looking for. Yay for JCPenney!

I gave George a second option just in the case that on the day of the awards he doesn’t really feel like dressing up as much, he has a back up plan. This polo, which can easily be dressed down with jeans and sneakers, is so versatile and the color looks amazing on him! He really loved this look as well!

I can’t wait to see you all at Hispanicize this year, what will you be wearing to The Tecla Awards?!

XoXo, Sherly
